Introduction:
1- Is the background information interesting?
Does it engage the reader?
2- Does it prepare the reader for the thesis?
3- Does the introduction provide a logical
progression toward the thesis?
4- Does it focus on, provide background for, or
lead into the thesis?
5- Is the Introduction adequately
developed?
6- Is the thesis a clear statement of the main
idea of the essay?
Body paragraphs:
1- Do the body paragraphs follow a logical order?
2- Is the relationship between paragraphs clear?
3-Are appropriate transitions used between paragraphs?
4- Is each topic sentence clear? Does it make one point that
supports the thesis?
5-Are there enough supporting sentences to explain or prove the topic
sentence?
6-Does each supporting sentence clearly develop the topic
sentence?
7-Are any supporting ideas repeated?
8-Is the order of supporting sentences clear and logical?
The concluding paragraph:
1- Does the conclusion summarize or tie together the essay?
2- Does it relate back to the hook or story used in the
introduction?
3- Does it introduce any new ideas that would confuse the reader?
B)Vocabulary and word choice:

Is the language used convincing, clear and concise?

Did the writer use appropriate vocabulary?

C)Structure :

Are all the sentences complete?

any short, choppy sentences be improved by combining them?

D) Mechanics:
1-Is each word spelled correctly?
2-Is the punctuation correct?
